08/24 - In this LiveLesson we explored how to graph equations like y = 2/3 x + 5. We then practiced these skills in a Desmos interactivity.
08/30 - In this LiveLesson we reviewed and learned to solve a system of two linear equations by substitution.
09/06 - In this LiveLesson we wrote two linear equations for a real-world situation. We then solved the system graphically, by substitution, and by elimination. Finally, we interpreted the result in the context of the original problem.
09/13 - In this LiveLesson we explore what powers, bases, and exponents are. We then figured out what something to the zero-power means, and what something to a negative power means.
09/27 - In this LiveLesson we reviewed the rules for exponents including what is a power, zero power, negative power, product of power, power of a product, power of power, power of a quotient. We then worked through several examples in which these rules were used to simplify expressions.
10/04 - In this LiveLesson we reviewed the rules of exponents and practiced using them to simplify expressions. We finished by writing scientific notation in standard notation.
10/11 - In this LiveLesson we explored exponential growth and decay by doing an experiment with the Windows calculator. We discovered that repeatedly multiplying by 1.1 made the answer grow infinitely large and repeatedly multiplying by 0.9 made the answer get closer and closer to 0. We then modelled Boomtown, a town in decline, and Smallville, a town in exponential growth. We used Desmos to examine the populations over time.
10/25 - In this LiveLesson we reviewed what a polynomial is and identified monomials, binomials, and trinomials. We then multiplied monomials by binomials and noted that we (1) multiply coefficients and (2) add exponents. We then reversed the process and factored the greatest common factor out of polynomials by (1) dividing coefficients and (2) subtracting exponents.
11/01 - In this LiveLesson we multiplied a monomial by a trinomial. We then factored the GCF from a trinomial. Then we practiced multiplying binomials by binomials.
11/08 - In this LiveLesson we explored multiplying binomials in general, perfect squares, and differences of squares. We then used what we learned about these to factor perfect squares, differences of squares and trinomials of the form x^2 + bx + c.
11/15- In this LiveLesson we practiced factoring x^2 + bx + c. Then we practiced factoring ax^2 + bx + c. We included positive and negative coefficients in both.
11/29 - In this LiveLesson we practiced factoring ax^2 + bx + c. We then explored special cases and determined that the same method used in ax^2 + bx + c can still be used. We then practiced using the difference of squares and the perfect square special cases.
12/06 - In this LiveLesson we practiced factoring x^2 + bx + c and ax^2 + bx + c in preparation for the unit test and semester exam.
12/13 - In this LiveLesson we did questions 1 to 5 on Sample Work 4, the semester review Sample Work assignment.
01/03 - In this LiveLesson we did questions 6 to 10 on Sample Work 4, the semester review Sample Work assignment.
