Unit 3 LessUnit 1 Lesson 1 - In this recording I explain how to graph y = x^2. Then I use Desmos to demonstrate how to grade some of the variations on y = x^2, such as y = 2x^2, y = -x^2, and y = x^2 + 2. Then I demonstrate how to combine these concepts to graph y = 2x^2 - 3.
Unit 1 Lesson 2 - In this video I demonstrate how to graph y = ax^2 + bx + c. Watch it as an introduction to this lesson. You may revisit it later for review.
Unit 1 Lesson 3 - In this video I demonstrate how to solve a quadratic equation by graphing in Desmos. Then we solve two quadratic equations by undoing with the square root.
Unit 1 Lesson 4 - In this video I explain the Zero Product Property. Then I demonstrate how to use it to solve two quadratic equations.
Unit 1 Lesson 6 - In this video I set up and solve a quadratic equation by completing the square.
Unit 1 Lesson 7 - In this video I demonstrate how to solve a quadratic equation using the quadratic formula and the Desmos calculator.
Unit 1 Lesson 8 - In this video I demonstrate how to determine if a relation is linear, quadratic or exponential from its table and from its graph.
Unit 1 Lesson 9 - In this video I solve a system of two equations, a linear equation and a quadratic equation. I use substitution and then check the solution graphically.
Unit 2 Lesson 1 - In this video I demonstrate a technique for simplifying radicals by using the prime factorization.
Unit 2 Lesson 2 - In this video I explain how to add, subtract, multiply and divide rational expressions. I also demonstrate how to rationalize the denominator and simplify by multiplying by the conjugate.
Unit 2 Lesson 3 - In this video I graph the function y = sqrt(x). I then explain how to transform it in Desmos.
Unit 2 Lesson 5 - In this video I demonstrate how to create a frequency table and histogram and cumulative frequency table and cumulative frequency histogram from a list of test scores.
Unit 2 Lesson 6 - In this video I demonstrate how to find the mean, median, mode and range of a set of 11 test scores. I then demonstrate some special features of Desmos.
Unit 2 Lesson 7 - In this video I demonstrate how to create a box and whisker plot from a list of 13 test scores.
Unit 3 Lesson 1 - In this video I demonstrate what a rational expression is. I then use factoring and cancelling to simplify three rational expressions.
Unit 3 Lesson 2 - In this video I demonstrate how to multiply and simplify fractions. I then use the same method to multiply and simplify a rational expression.
Unit 3 Lesson 3 - In this video I demonstrate how to divide polynomials by factoring and reducing. I then demonstrate how to divide a polynomial by a monomial. Finally, I demonstrate how to use long division to divide polynomials.
Unit 3 Lesson 4 - In this video I demonstrate how to add fractions by factoring and getting a common denominator. I then demonstrate the same process for rational expressions.
Unit 3 Lesson 6 - In this video I demonstrate how to solve rational expressions by eliminating the fractions. In one case, the result is a linear equation. In another case the result is a quadratic equation.
Unit 3 Lesson 7 - In this video I review the concept of direct variation as y = kx or y/x = k. I give a specific example as formula, table and graph. I then present inverse variation as y = k/x or yx = k and give a specific example as formula, table and graph. I then solve for a missing value in an inverse variation.
