Full STEAM Ahead Project
This project is one of the major features of mathematics honors courses, the addition of a course-long project assignment. That is what this is. You will be working on the Full STEAM Ahead project all semester long. So, I recommend you keep it in a notebook, or somewhere that is easy to find, as you will be getting it back out to work some more on it later. Do note that, at each drop box for the project, a copy of the original worksheet is provided in the lesson. Please only submit the parts of the lesson asked for and all previous parts, and not the whole worksheet. What you submit will grow each time.
Unit 2 Function Algebra - Lesson 7
When you open the worksheet for this project, you will notice the worksheet outlines 6 parts to the assignment. Please do not do them all at once. In Unit 2 only complete Part 1 and Part 2. Part 1 is a bit of research. STEAM is STEM with an A for Art added in. So, it is Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics. Part 1 has you researching some famous artists. I might also add Rube Goldberg to the mix.
Part 2 asks you to start thinking about the project you will be doing. Note, this step does not lock you in. You may always change your mind about what you will do later.
- Summarize the works and style of two of the sculptors you explored in the introductory lesson.
- What about their work did you find inspiring?
- What STEM connections do you see in their work?
Part 2 asks you to start thinking about the project you will be doing. Note, this step does not lock you in. You may always change your mind about what you will do later.
- What practical physical considerations are needed for each type of sculpture?
- Which of the four types of sculpture would you like to create?
- What concept or theme would you like your sculpture to convey?
- What title will you use?
